In the Sring of 1978, Basset first heard of the famous Shroud of Turin and the remarkable image on the cloth. Intrigued by the photo-negative phenemenon, whereby the image as seen in the negative revealed almost photographic clarity, Basset began to study the image by rendering this highly sensitive pencil drawing. This drawing is the very first attempt by the artist to discover the visual nature of this most extraordinary religious relic. Click on image to see detail view.
